Welcome my friend! Come on in & we’ll enjoy a reflection together over a cuppa. Today I thought I would share some sweet memories of my Dad who has been in my thoughts a great deal of late.
But before we continue let’s grab our mugs, a treat & get comfy for our time together. As it’s cold & raining here again on the east coast of Australia we’ll be sitting inside where it’s warm. I have grabbed a large mug of French Lady Grey tea & toasted a slice of my home baked gf Coconut & Date loaf both delicious! What are you sipping?
Now we’re comfy let’s begin…
Remembering
When I’m sitting at my desk typing away, directly in front of me on my notice board are two black & white photos, one is of my parents with my younger sister & I in period dress of the early 1800s standing & waiting for a steam train to arrive for a local celebration. It was a happy fun time that I clearly remember as an 8 year old before life became complicated in adolescence.
The second photo is also in black & white, it’s a photo of me when I was 3 years old, I’m looking rather cute in a summer hat & dress with little socks & fancy shoes.

Why do I have these two particular photos before me? Because they speak of the sweetest of times & bring a smile to my face every time I see them. In fact I actually remember that time as a 3 year old for that age holds some of my very first memories of my parents.
Sadly, it’s been a few years since both my parents passed into glory, Mum a few years before Dad & I miss both of them greatly.
But memories of Dad have been particularly on my mind of late, his loving gentle ways. Especially his love & concern for all the family.
And a sweet time we spent together when I was a child shared in;
And his words in the years before he passed that still echo through my mind as shared in;
Why has Dad been so much on my mind of late?
Is it the anniversary of his birthday, Father’s Day or when he passed away you may ask. No it’s none of those.
The reason is that I’ve started a devotional on the Lord’s Prayer, it arrived in the mail after ordering it from Our Daily Bread, it’s compiled especially for Seniors called ‘Talking with Our Father’.
When I opened the package & perused through it’s pages I thought it was basic but I like to read through material before I recommend or pass them on to others. Just so I know the content first hand. I’ve been enjoying each section with a cuppa at nothing tea daily & I’ve been pleasantly surprised by some new insights by it’s author.
Which has brought sweet memories of my earthly Dad to mind. The greatest prayer my Dad & I prayed together at the end of each phone call or visit would be the Lord’s prayer.
In fact when I would ask Dad if he wanted to pray he would immediately go into praying the Lord’s prayer which he knew well.
While these & many other memories of my Dad are sweet. I’m reminded that I have an amazing Heavenly Father who is very much still involved in my life & always will be.
Shall we pray the prayer Jesus taught us to pray? Let’s pray;
Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven,
Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our sins, as we forgive others, And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom & the Glory forever & ever, Amen!
(Matthew 6: 9-13 & Luke 11: 2-4)
May you come to know our Heavenly Father in all those areas of your life in a new & very real way today my friend.
Until next time,
Jennifer
