Practising Thanks-living

Welcome to my little corner of cyberspace my friend where we enjoy a cuppa together while reflecting upon life’s ups & downs.

This month has been rather a busy one for me & busyness often causes fatigue so these past few days I have been enjoying time out. But have you found at times that it’s difficult to slow down your thoughts & the constant urge to do? We’ll address this phenomenon in a minute but for now let’s grab our cuppa’s, a treat & get comfy.

Today I have some treats left over from my eldest daughter’s birthday High Tea that we enjoyed a few days ago. I’m savoring a gf mini lemon meringue tart with a large mug of Chai Latte from a gift pack my youngest daughter gifted me with this beautiful floral arrangement below;

It’s raining here on the east coast of Australia & although we’ve had rather a hot weekend it’s chilly again. So we’ll be sitting in my dining room that looks out through large glass sliding doors to our front garden that is rather lush at the moment enjoying this lovely arrangement on the table.

Now we’re comfy, let’s begin…

The Awakening of an Unexpected Giant

If you join me here often you’ll know that this month I spent precious time with my youngest granddaughter Mis L, shared in Pink Clouds & Lilac Blossoms.

This past week I’ve also had the joy of my eldest daughter visiting from interstate, travelling a 1,000km to spend precious time with hubby & I before spending time with her sister & family before heading back home to her own family.

Another event this month that you won’t be aware of is the night before my time with Miss L a few weeks ago, a sleeping giant awoke – a health issue that has been quite for a long time, unfortunately it awoke with a vengeance especially the first morning I was to go & pick Miss L up for our special day together.

I thought, oh no! I prayed as I had made a commitment to my daughter to have Miss L for the day so she could fulfill her work commitments. The pain of this awakened giant was incredible, but as I sat praying the pain subsided & I was able to fulfill my promise that day, Praising God!

However the next morning the giant roared again & the pain was so intense that I thought my husband was going to have to call an ambulance & a trip to the ER may be in order! But again I prayed, however it didn’t go as quickly this time, so I layed down on the sofa, turned & then had to sit up quickly trying to allieviate the pain & all of a sudden it left! Again Praising God!

Did you know that God heals through various means some by His supernatural miracles, others by surgery or medicines & at times it’s a progression over a longer period of time. Oh it may not be how we think we should or would be healed but He definitely does a healing work in all who come to Him whether physically, mentally or spiritually.

So over this past week my physician has sent me for all manner of medical tests to see the current status of the situation & whether I’ll need surgery to correct this particular issue or not, we will see but I know that whatever the next step may be, I’m in the Lord’s hands & He’s with me;

“…for He has said, “I WILL NEVER [under any circumstances] DESERT YOU [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], NOR WILL I FORSAKE or LET YOU DOWN or RELAX MY HOLD ON YOU [assuredly not]!” Hebrews 13:5 AMP

Entering the Sanctuary of Rest

As you can see it has been a very busy but overall blessed month after all of the above events, I realised I needed that special & precious time to rest in my little Sanctuary.

As you may know the Sanctuary of Thanks-living is my 2026 Words of the Year (WOTY) & just when I think I have learnt all I can to continue tp apply thanks-living in my life I’m surprised there’s still more! Let me demonstrate…

I consider my home a physical place of Sanctuary from the craziness of the outside world & I’m very thankful for this home that hubby & I have lived in since we were married. It’s not ultra modern nor is it the size of the mansions of today but to me it’s just right & being located just around the corner (a short walk) from one of the most beautiful waterways in our area it’s extra special, for I love the water.

On Saturday afternoon as I arrived home from our special girl’s High Tea, I realised just how weary I was & desperately needed that Sanctuary of restfulness to rejuvenate. But of course when we want to rest our minds can have other ideas & keep on keeping on!

So I have a little strategy that works every time, I go for a short walk along the waterfront & let the sound of the waves lapping upon the shore, the feel of the salty seabreeze upon my face & the choral of the birdsongs calm my mind. Then it’s much easier to truly rest in my little Sanctuary called home on my return.

Although, I’m always reminded of the following promise that speaks of an eternal rest to come;

“And I heard a voice from Heaven telling me to write, “Blessed are the dead—those who die in the Lord from this moment on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labors, for their deeds will follow them.” Revelation 14:13 NIV

May we one day enter that rest my friend with deeds that have given honour to our Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus & through the enabling of the Holy Spirit.

Until next time,

Jennifer
