We often hear statements & requests for prayer in ‘please pray’ or ‘I’m praying for….’ most often when a crisis is immanent or has already happened.
Then there’s the term ‘born again’ bantered around in the media, movies & online. But what does this all mean & where do these originate?
The term ‘born again‘ or as in most English translations of the New Testament ‘born anew’ has its origins in a conversation Jesus had, while here on Earth, with Nicodemus. Nicodemus was a Pharisee, a religious leader of the Jews.
Nicodemus came to see Jesus one night wanting to know more of Jesus’ teachings & how he could enter the coming Kingdom.
For he knew Jesus had come from God because of the miracles Jesus was performing, he said he knew no one could preform these miracles but by the supernatural power of God.
Jesus told Nicodemus the following,
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born anew [from above], he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Nicodemus didn’t quite understand this & asked how on earth a person could be born again when he was old. For no one could go back in time to enter this world through their mother a second time, could they?
Jesus explained with the following statements,
“…Unless one is born through the cleansing new birth of the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God.”
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, (Jesus Christ) that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.”
So how is one born of the Spirit?
Through believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He lives, was sacrificed on the cross & rose from that death for you personally. So that you may have eternal life with God the Father, as Jesus stated above.
And by acknowledging that you desire a personal relationship with God by asking Him through personal prayer.
Prayer is simply communicating with the Creator of the Universe, God the Father
You see this relationship doesn’t just happen automatically, we individually need to make this personal choice for ourselves as no one can make this choice for us! How I came to this personal choice is shared Here
Praying the Prayer
I hope you make this prayer your own now, as it’s the most important prayer you will ever pray,
Dear Heavenly Father,
I come to You in Your only Son’s name, Jesus, & ask You to forgive my sins. You say that you will never refuse anyone who comes to You.
So I now ask You Jesus, to come into my heart & life. You say that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. I am calling on Your name, Lord Jesus, Amen.
You are now born anew through the Spirit of God (also known as the Holy Spirit).
Find yourself a Christian Bible & start reading about Jesus life in the New Testament part of that Bible. Ask the Holy Spirit through prayer to guide you into the truth of God’s Word (the Bible) as you read.
The gospel of Matthew is a good place to begin in the New Testament. You can start now by down loading a free NIV or KJV Bible App at Google Playstore.
Find yourself a Christian church community to join. Making sure they teach that the Bible is God’s Word.
Let the pastor or minister know that you are newly born again so that they’ll know to encourage & nurture you in your new relationship with God. If they don’t do this then please find a Christian community that will.
A loving Christian community, where you’ll be nurtured in Jesus’ teachings & God’s truths with others of the faith is a precious community indeed.
