As I’ve been recovering from oral surgery which has been slower then I’d expected & still in progress, I’ve had the opportunity to do a lot of reflection. And what I’ve realised over the last month is that I’ve not only been reflecting in my conscious hours but also in my sleeping hours through dreams.
I thought this would be an interesting topic for us today. So let’s grab our cuppa’s, a delightful treat & get comfy so we can begin. I’ve grabbed one of my ‘ol favourites a large mug of French Lady Grey tea with a home baked gf Banana Muffin to munch upon.
While it’s beginning to warm a little here on the east coast of Australia, it’s still windy & that wind is a bit nippy at the moment so we’ll enjoy our time indoors again. But there’s definitely the feeling that Spring is on it’s way.
What do dreams tell us?
Dreams can tell us many things, most nights it’s the brain’s way of filing all the information from our waking hours. But dreams can also reflect what we have been experiencing or watching during the day. And often dreams can reveal subconscious concerns or worries that we may not have been consciously aware of, or want to face or even admit to ourselves.
When I was Clinically Counselling I would advise those going through Therapy to keep a Dream journal as the counselling progressed & to let me know if any particular dream stood out to them, for dreams can reveal insights to the Therapist.
In 2018 I wrote a post about Dreams when I first began blogging & it’s still the most popular post on this site around the globe which tells me how fascinated many of us are with dreaming, shared HERE.

Dreams that are Spiritual
Did you know that dreams can be a vehicle where God reveals Himself in new & exciting ways? As many accounts in both the Old & New Testaments record & the following scripture confirms;
“In a dream, a vision of the night [one may hear God’s voice], when deep sleep falls on those while slumbering upon the bed” Job 33:15
One such dream I experienced many years ago, which was a very poignant dream indeed, shared in the following excerpt;
On reflection that dream was God preparing me for the death of my only son Benjamin which sadly happened several months later.
Dreams that give direction
Another dream which stands out to me was in 2010, I dreamt that an off duty Police Officer that my husband & I were having coffee with, said to my husband as we were leaving the cafe;
“Oi, Steve God says to stop work as it’s killing you mate! God says He will provide”
I shared this with my husband immediately on waking. Three weeks later we went on our first big holiday together, just the two of us (the other holiday breaks had been family holidays), it was to the island of Tasmania, a trip that we had been planning for months & were very excited to visit this beautiful state here in Australia.
We were a week into our two week holiday when suddenly my husband collapsed in our cabin which overlooked the extinct volcano known as the ‘Nut’ in Stanley! I couldn’t rouse him so immediately called an Ambulance, by the time they arrived my husband was just coming round.
To cut a long story short, after we got home & he had a few more emergency trips requiring an Ambulance to ER he was finaly diagnosed with a certain Heart condition & yes had to retire from his work in the Building Industry where he carried very heavy beams & timber frames as he built homes. So he retrained into an Allied Medical field where the physical load on his heart would be far less, we are now enjoying retirement together.
And God indeed kept His promise to us, He provided all through that period in miraculous ways.
Dreams of late…
Recently I’ve been dreaming of my extended family members who I grew up with, sadly many have passed on now & others have lost contact over the decades which unfortunately happens in families as individual lives become busy & are pulled in different directions.
However, I find myself praying, for those who are still on planet Earth on waking as I don’t know what’s happening in their lives for them to be included in my dreams. I had not been thinking of these people in the days or weeks leading up to these dreams so it’s been interesting to me that they have starred in my dreams of late.
We need to be careful with the interpretation of Dreams
One thing we must always keep in mind though & that is that not all dreams are from God, & if we think they just may be then they will align with His Word, His teachings & the circumstances of our lives.
In other words we must always follow God’s direction in His Word;
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God…” 1 John 4:1 NKJV
& the following;
“But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good;” 1 Thessalonians 5: 21 NASB 1977
And this includes our dreams my friend.
Until next time,
Jennifer

Jennifer, I don’t remember most of my dreams. I do dream of family members who have passed away. My husband has a lot of dreams and often describes them. Thank you for this post dear one. I am sorry your recovery is taking longer than expected. Take care of yourself, my friend 🙏🏻
