Often we share the big events in our lives that bring joy, don’t we? But what about the everyday little things that often bring moments of pure joy?
I thought we would reflect upon this topic today while we enjoy our cuppa’s & treats together. So let’s grab a mug & get comfy.
I’ve grabbed a Chai Latté & a home baked gf Banana Muffin, again we’re sitting in our dining room looking out onto our garden that is being blown by gale force winds at the moment with a Severe weather alert gone out as I write this! But we’re protected inside with the Sun shining through the glass doors warming us, despite the gale force winds, as we enjoy our time together.
Now we’re ready let’s begin…
The Everyday Joys in Life
As I’ve been recovering from Oral Surgery this week, I’ve been keenly aware of the little joys (blessings) in daily life that has my heart singing with gratitude. Simple joys that bring profound gratefulness like a comfortable & warm home protected from the elements howling around us.
The joy of the sunshine shining through the windows & dancing upon the carpet & walls creating interesting shapes & natural art forms. The joy of a comfortable armchair that is perfectly placed with a view out to our garden where the sunlight dances upon the leaves of the many varieties of plants & highlights the glistening intricate woven gossamer of Spider webs amongst them.
Another joy I’m extremely grateful for is a caring husband whose company & gentle love is irreplaceable in this season of my life, as shared in;
I think so often we take the everyday little blessings for granted, don’t you?
We get so used to them being our daily norm & don’t truly appreciate what a blessing & joy they are until we’re forced, by circumstances, to pause & notice them more carefully. A simple example of this is the ability to eat & swallow without extreme pain. Or the opportunity to be able to rest & recuperate without the pressure of having to do.
Gratitude is a Chosen Attitude
Did you know that it’s actually a choice to recognise the joys & blessings in our lives & depending on our choice can either feed the negative or positive neuro chemicals in our brain? Keeping either a negative or a positive attitude going, I explain this in more detail in the following post;
The Sanctuary of Gratitude
I’ve also been reflecting upon my 2026 Word of the Year (WOTY) ~ Sanctuary which means; a safe place, a protected place, a Holy place.
As I’ve been expressing gratitude for the Sanctuary of our home I’ve been thinking it’s actually more than that, it’s also where God has placed us in the location of our home. It’s not only a safe & protected place for us but for others.
While it may get a little noisy at times with the to & fro of traffic, as we’re on the only main road into our little seaside Hamlet, we also have the privilege of praying whenever Emergency Vehicles pass by. And we have on many occasions been able to assist those who have needed our help in accidents, breakdowns or mishaps. Our front pergola has even proven to be a haven for those who found themselves in a sudden down pour.

And it’s not only people who find our property a sanctuary at times, God’s creatures often find Sanctuary here, we’ve had a Koala one night wanting to get through our locked side gate, which my husband opened as the Koala calmly passed through without incident & disappeared into the bush reserve across the road.
We’ve had Forest Ducks with their ducklings drop in most years on their way down to the water behind us for a little rest before they go on their way. We have resident Blue Tongue Lizards who often give me a fright when they stick their heads out of the garden as at first they look like a snake.
We’ve also had snakes that visit, there was a huge Diamond Python in our Jacaranda one day, a Red Belly Black Snake that wandered into my husband’s workshop another day & when my husband told him to;
“turn around buddy!”
It did & went out the door it came in disappearing into the yard!
One day we heard a big scuffle on our Carport & went out to find a huge Goanna climbing up the timber pole support onto the roof! We also have nocturnal visitors of Brushtail & Ringtail possums, Flying Foxes who love the palm fruit on the Palms out the front, as well as, little Longnose Bandicoots & Antechinus – a little Marsupial. And a variety of birds both Native & Migratory often visit.
Which all bring joy when we spot, hear or see evidence they have been visiting, one my husband has nicknamed ‘Scratchy’ as he loves to dig grubs out of our lawn, we think he may bring his whole family with him some nights because there is a lot of activity at times. We’re not sure if it’s the Longnosed Bandicoots or the Antechinus that is the culprit but we’re happy they feel safe & protected here to feed.
And seeing this I’m reminded of the following scripture of the true Sanctuary for our souls, Jesus who said;
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11: 28
And I ask myself am I resting in the Lord’s care for my soul as well as my healing? And I can say a resounding Yes & Amen for He is my true Sanctuary!
What about you my friend are you feeling burdened at the moment? Remember Jesus is there waiting for you to come to Him so that He can give you the rest for your soul that can only be found in Him. How do you come to Him you may ask, it’s all shared HERE.
Until next time,
Jennifer
