Welcome to my little corner of cyberspace my friend! I thought we would reflect upon the little things that bring physical & emotional comfort & take us back to sweet childhood memories. Because I’ve been craving homemade Chicken Noodle Soup lately, which signals to me that I’m needing a little touch of comforting nostalgia at the moment.
But before we do, let’s grab our cuppa’s, a treat & get comfy… I’m having an ol’ faithful today, a mug of Earl Grey with a Mother’s day gift a gf White Chocolate cookie, but only half so to keep my CAR balanced, explanation HERE.
Sweet Comfort
Do you have a go to childhood comfort? Maybe it’s reading a book snuggled in your favourite chair with your favourite crocheted lap rug. Maybe it’s a comforting mug of Hot Chocolate with tiny Marshmallows by the fire or a childhood meal that echoes comfort in all things being right with the world in that moment.
I find slow cooking Chicken Noodle soup with veggies & enjoying the results comforting & healing. My mother didn’t cook this meal from scratch, as I do, it was made in a well known Commercial Kitchen but was delicious none the less.
Although, her home baked Apple pie & custard were legendary in our family. However, soups are meals I always enjoy, just like my dear ol’ Dad, especially on cold rainy days.

Both Mum & Dad are now with the Lord, but soups & a Roast dinner always transport me back to enjoying meals with them throughout the cold wintery days of childhood.
After just having had Mother’s Day weekend & unfortunately a challenging weekend with Fibromyalgia, I couldn’t make it to our planned Mother’s Day picnic with my youngest daughter & family, so throughout the day I became Nostalgic.
However, in the afternoon there was a surprise knock at the door & visit from her & my grandchildren with lots of goodies in hand & a bunch of flowers (sent from my eldest daughter a 1,000km away). Although it was a short visit it was very sweet none the less.
Nostalgia
Nostalgia is something that we all experience at some point in our lives. It’s often mixed with sweet memories of happy times mixed with sadness, sadness that those who shared those times are no longer here.
And this was my experience over the weekend. I know full well that my parents are with the Lord & I will one day see them again but we are human & miss those who have gone ahead of us.
I’m reminded of the following scripture;
‘Let us seize and hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable and trustworthy and faithful [to His word].’ Heb 10: 23 AMP
God has given us His word that all those who call on the name of Jesus will be saved (Rom 10:13) & spend Eternity with Him.
For some it will be only moments before they enter Eternity, like the thief on the Cross. For others it will be many decades in seizing, holding tightly & confessing the Hope they have in Jesus.
Wherever we fit into the timeline, one thing is assured God is reliable, trustworthy & faithful in His promise of Eternal life through His Son, Jesus Christ, as I can testify when I experienced just a glimpse of Eternity in one of the most challenging & saddest times of my life shared in, “I go to prepare a place for you”.
It’s okay to enjoy a trip down memory lane & remember those who have gone before us, just as it is to enjoy the special moments with those who are here in the present for both show we are human.
While memories & Chicken Noodle soup are comforting, the greatest comfort is that we have a wonderful Saviour who is with us in Spirit, the Holy Spirit, always even to the end of the Age.
Until next time,
Jennifer

Comfort food – it is amazing how a simple dish can bring comfort. And then the meal is enriched further by precious memories. I am most grateful our Comforter knew exactly what we would need to be comforted here while we wait for eternity. Praying for you, sweet friend!
Thank you sweet friend, I appreciate your prayers. 😊
I also agree with the following;
“I am most grateful our Comforter knew exactly what we would need to be comforted here while we wait for eternity.” Amen!
I don’t have many food-related memories of my mom. She worked full time as I got older, and meals were something simple. But I do have other memories and like to pull some of them out around Mother’s Day, especially since she is no longer with us. I’m sorry you weren’t feeling well on Mother’s Day but glad you had a nice surprise visit.
Thank you Barbara, it was a lovely surprise. It’s comforting to bring out memories of our Mum’s on Mother’s day, especially when they are no longer here to enjoy it with us.
comfort food indeed … in fact I’ve got a few bags in the freezer of this homemade goodness and maybe today’s the day to defrost some for supper!
i hope you’re enjoying a lovely weekend, friend …
Thank you Linda, I did have a lovely weekend my friend!

Jennifer, I have been spending a lot of time going down memory lane as my brother and I are sifting through our sweet Daddy’s home! He was the best Daddy and all of our memories are sweet! I am so thankful for our Godly heritage.
I am so sorry you had a bad setback on Mother’s Day. I am praying for you, my friend 🙏🏻❤️
Thank you Pam, I appreciate your prayers 💕
It’s a difficult task that you & your brother are having to do now. I’m so glad it is bringing you both joy in your time of grief.
