In the Eye of the Storm

Welcome my friend, come on in & we’ll enjoy a cuppa together while we reflect upon the storms that are brewing at the moment & where we can find joy & contentment despite it’s intimidation.

But first let’s grab our mugs, a treat & get comfy. I have a treat today in a slice of gf Orange Maramalde cake with a mug of Russian Caravan tea, delicious! What’s yours?

I must admit this week has flown by & I haven’t got to the keyboard until today (the end of the week)! So I shared this with hubby, as I really didn’t have a topic prepared, but he did & it melded beautifully in what I have been noticing of late…

Dark Storms Brewing…

As I was walking along the waterfront the other day I noticed not only how beautiful the scenery was with it’s azure waters across the bay, the birds singing & the trees gently swaying in the sea breeze but how content & joyful I felt & have done in this season of my life.

But when I looked out to the west I could see dark clouds gathering, we were in for another Summer storm but in the midst of these dark clouds a ray of sun shone brightly.

Let’s make this personal…

Hubby & I were at a wedding the other day, it was a beautifully relaxed & casual wedding of a friend of ours marrying her sweetheart, both bride & groom are in their seventies & have found love & joy with each other after the heartache of the deaths of their previous spouses.

The ceremony & reception was at our Church which is only five minutes away, perfect for this ol’ gal with low energy levels. I also got to catch up with many old friends who I haven’t seen in quite a while which was lovely.

The conversation around our table as we sat & dined together in celebration for our newly married friends turned to the storms brewing in our world & society. Many at the table had been in ministry for decades, some now retired although still serving the Lord in some capacity. But the comment that stood out to me by one former missionary was the following;

“Things are happening in this world that I never thought would happen in my lifetime!”

And I agreed.

Have you noticed that storms of the most hideous kind are brewing around us in society?

We only have to turn the news on or read a news feed to know that so many things in this world are more & more out of balance. There is twisting of untruth into truth & truth into untruth & all is far from God’s principles for harmonious living with each other.

But have you ever been in the eye of a storm?

The Eye of the Storm

Here in Australia we have Tropical Cyclones, in other parts of the world they’re known as Hurricanes or Typhoons. They’re always given a name & an intensity rating to help people ascertain their risk of harm & the action needed.

Where we’re situated on the east coast of Australia, we don’t necessarily get the higher intensity cyclones directly hitting us but we do get the tail storms & they can be very intense indeed.

We recently felt the impact of such a storm, as I shared in the post below, in the middle of this particular storm there was a period of complete calm from the raging wind & rain, it was a calm & stillness like no other.

A very Strange week indeed!

And that’s what I have felt in this season of our life together, a season that has raging storms of chronic health conditions for both hubby & I, a season of being taken out of the main stream of life but one that while these storms rage, we are in the eye where the calm & protection of the Almighty God is strengthening us & His rays of light shine ever so brightly.

The scripture hubby was reading this morning, when he was reflecting upon this topic was;

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand].
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!”

You will not be afraid of the terror of night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noon.” Psalm 91: 1-6 AMP

And we both echo this wholeheartedly!

And it’s the same with the raging storms in this world in the wars & rumours of wars, in dark clouds gathering as political leaders & despot governments posture for power. And God’s principles tossed out & the practices of our old foe being adopted as the norm.

These dark clouds & storms may all seem intimidating, even overwhelming but those who dwell in the shelter of the Almighty will remain spiritually secure, resting in His peace & calm that surpasses all understanding.

May we rest in His Shelter my friend in these stormy times.

Until next time,

Jennifer

  1. Thank you for this encouragement in the midst of the stormy chaos in this world, Jennifer. It truly is scary. I’m so grateful God keeps us sheltered in His everlasting arms of love and grace. Love and blessings to you!

  2. Yes, the dark storms seem to brew more often. I love Psalm 91, may we always find rest in His shelter. I love this post, your wisdom is always appreciated, my friend ❤️
