The Power of Words

2024 seemed to have just flown by, don’t you think? And we’re already in a new year, unbelievable!

I’m trying to catch up but really I don’t think we can ever catch up on time. As Time is a mystery, something scientist’s have been trying to understand for eons with no success.

Today, I thought we would reflect upon words or themes for the year (instead of New Year’s Resolutions that never last). A theme/word for the year (WOTY) has been a fun practice I’ve adopted throughout my blogging years.

But first let’s grab our cuppa’s, a treat & get comfy. I’m enjoying a home baked gf Banana Cupcake with Vanilla frosting today with a mug of Earl Grey, an old favourite.

Now we’re comfy let’s begin…

At the end of each year I summarise the word/theme I’ve had for that year, sharing the amazing things God has revealed & taught. And recently as I took a look back over those years it has been a renewed blessing to see how God has worked mightly in my life & those I love. It has been so very exciting to witness the miracles He has performed along the way.

But first, after such a busy & hectic Christmas period let’s take time to just;

for a moment.

Words of the Years (WOTY)

At the beginning of 2020, the word Release was in the spotlight;

The year of Release was known as the year of Jubilee in ancient times, it was the completeness of several sabbatical seasons. Only happening once in every fifty years [every likelihood once in an ancient’s lifetime], restoring everyone to their place of origin, releasing debt & restoring the inheritance of the land.

That year saw a most miraculous release in the answer to a prayer I had been praying for forty years, shared in;

Alone in the Wilderness?

In 2021 the word Prayer was highlighted, with an in depth study series on;

The Prayer of the Past for the Present

Then in 2022 two words came into focus Ask & Intentional, which saw a new depth in my relationship with the Lord. But sadly saw the passing of my mother, though thankfully into the arms of Jesus.

In 2023 the word Season arrived, which was most enlightening shared in The Feeling like you’ve been set aside… And the joyful arrival of the next generation of our family with baby Colten Eli, beginning a new season in great grandmotherhood.

And 2024 with its word Change saw many changes some good while others a little more challenging, recently shared in 2024 Change in Retrospect.

Which brings us to 2025. The word Explore has been jumping out at me of late & one that I’m looking forward to exploring over the next twelve months with the Lord!

So if we put these WOTY into a sentence it reads as follows;

Release prayer that has been asked intentionally for a season of change to explore!

Amazing!

But the greatest Word of all time

While this practice has been an interesting exercise each year & a wonderful way to focus upon what God is doing in my life.

My prime focus is always upon the greatest Word of all, & that’s Jesus Himself, for John’s gospel tells us;

In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Jesus Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself…In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.

John 1: 1 & 4 AMP

&

The Word became flesh (Jesus Christ) and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1: 14 NLT

May we never lose sight of who Jesus is, our Saviour, & His importance in our life every day & for all time my friend for He is the most powerful Word of all time.

May you have a very blessed 2025!

    I am always amazed at how each word, different each year and for each of us, leads us on unique journeys and can deepen our walk with the Lord. May 2025 be a most meaningful journey for you!

    1. Thank you, I’m delighted that you could join me here today over a cuppa. ☺️
      Yes, I found it very poignant & powerful too! It collated so much of the last five years & really was a light bulb moment.

    I enjoyed your WOTY recap, Jennifer! And it sounds like 2025 will be full of adventure as you explore the world around you.

  3. Explore! I love that as a word choice, Jennifer. So many options and ways to go with it–in and out and up. And I love how you put your WOTYs into a sentence. I need to try that exercise myself!

      1. Okay, I did it! Such a fun exercise! Here’s a sentence using my past 10 One Words from the previous 10 years:

        “Every Human is a Mystery with a Story to Release, a Hope as they Linger with Curiosity in the Uncertain Ripples of life: Welcome!”

        Thanks for the inspiration, Jennifer!

  4. I so enjoyed going back and rereading your words for the past four years! Your example of faith in the midst of pain is encouraging. We can rest in the promises of our Father! Wishing you a blessed New Year, my friend!
