What A Day!

How often do you have a day to yourself? If you’re in a relationship or busy with family, rarely do you have a day home alone just to concentrate on your own care.

This is our topic for today my friend, the importance of a day to oneself without catching up on housework, projects or having contact with the outside world.

So grab yourself a cuppa, a treat & get comfy for our time together.

I’m having a new tea blend called ‘Blue Mountain’ named after our Blue Mountains which is part of our Great Dividing Range that extends for 3500 km down the east coast of Australia.

They’re called Blue because of the Blue hue that comes from the Eucalyptus oil given off by our beautiful & majestic Eucalypt Gum Forests.

The blend entails black tea, blue cornflower petals & has a floral taste. Rather delicious!

The Importance of taking a Day for Spiritual Care…

Yesterday, I found myself with just such a day! Hubby needed to deliver a finished project to a family member & I wasn’t up to the two hour road trip that would entail.

So I stayed home…

I had planned to go for a little walk around My Neighbourhood, as I’ve found a short walk greatly helps the pain of Fibromyalgia  (FM), but would you believe an old injury flared up out of the blue & prevented that walk!

So I found myself at odds in what to do…

I thought a movie day may be in order, as I needed to put that foot up & rest it. But after perusing our movie library nothing really appealed.

However, I did find what looked like a very interesting movie online about the ‘Two Witnesses of Revelation’. Thus grabbed myself a cuppa & got comfy to watch this movie.

It was really interesting & put forth a new proposal from Old & New Testament scriptures on who these two witnesses may be.

Although, it wasn’t what I would call a movie per se but it did include excerpts from various Christian movies as it went along giving great visual effects for the scriptures used.

It did go for 80 minutes which sounds like a long time but it actually went quite quickly, yes it was that interesting!

Time to Ponder

I also find having time to myself is really important as it gives the opportunity to just chill out (or as I like to say chillax), which is crucial for both mental & spiritual wellbeing.

You see I put to one side the housework & projects I had, I also turned off my phone & had a break from writing to focus on a day with my Lord.

Which entailed watching the movie above, that gave much food for thought & time to ponder with Him on the subject of end times.

Often we don’t do this when our attention is on caring for others or getting what needs to be done, done.

It’s also healthy for our loved ones to have time to do what they need to do without us. My husband had a precious time with the family he visited.

Drawing apart

Drawing apart is important, Jesus did this often, He withdrew to be alone with His Father, our Heavenly Father.

He would go to a quiet place away from the crowds, away from His disciples, away from the pressures of ministry to relax, refresh & rejuvenate with the Father.

‘In those days Jesus went out to the mountain to pray, and He spent the night in prayer to God.’

Luke 6:12 BSB

Is this a contradiction in terms, withdraw from others to be alone with the Father?

Not all all, as when we’re with people there are certain expectations & social contracts to be met within relationships.

However, when we’re with our Heavenly Father there aren’t any human pressures we can relax with Him like no other!  We can be refreshed in His Spirit, for time with Him rejuvenates all areas of our life.

We are better people for having spent time apart with our Heavenly Father whether that’s a short or long period. And Jesus knew this well.

What is Prayer anyhow?

As you may have noticed the verse above mentions why Jesus withdrew to be with His Father, it was to pray.

I’m sure images that we’ve all seen in movies, books & maybe even in our own imaginings has Jesus kneeling with His hands together in the prayer position all night long.

But Jesus had a more intimate relationship with His Father then what this formal pose would have us believe.

Prayer is so much more then the position or posture we take, it’s a heart attitude that we have when we spend time alone with our Heavenly Father. Prayer is  Contemplative.

Its also a form of communication, just think how we communicate with our nearest & dearest we aren’t formal with them.

At times its just simply being in their presence, we do so with an ease & knowledge of their acceptance of us out of relationship with them.

Jesus knows the Father like no other, their relationship is actually beyond what we can comprehend but we are given glimpses throughout the Bible of just how special it is.

We too can have this special intimacy with our Heavenly Father through Jesus, whose Spirit is given to us at the moment of accepting Jesus as our personal Lord & Saviour.

However, it’s also a choice to continue to walk or sit in His presence for our will is not taken from us once we choose to follow Him.

Thus…

Being in His presence & communicating with Him can look like many things even watching a movie, having a cuppa & a treat pondering upon His Word & the things to come.

For we have been reminded;

‘…whatever you do, do all to the glory of [our great] God.’

1 Corinthians 10: 31 AMP

When was the last time you spent a day with the Lord alone my friend? Without your phone, without doing the doings or scrolling on the computer.

You can’t remember?

Then take a day to chillax with Him. You won’t regret it!

Until next time,

Jennifer

Jen, stopping by for a cuppa with you. I live alone and I just love my solitude with Jesus. I love the quiet stillness. Fibro makes it difficult to get out, but I do when I can. As a recovering people pleaser, it so easy to feel overwhelmed and fatigued. Especially when I used to try to hide my pain and pretend to others I’m okay just so I didn’t let them down.
I so appreciate you sharing this blessed message with Sweet Tea & Friends this month sweet friend.

Jennifer, I love the reminder that we do not need to be formal with the Lord. Just sit and talk. I also think when take the time for ourselves, to be alone, we then can hear what the Lord says to us, and that is what our souls need to be refreshed and strengthened. Thank you for this important reminder!

    1. Thank you Joanne. I agree with your following statement;
“…when we take the time for ourselves, to be alone, we then can hear what the Lord says to us, and that is what our souls need to be refreshed and strengthened.” Amen!

  3. I’m sorry you didn’t get to experience your day as you originally envisioned it, but it sounds like it turned out wonderful anyway, Jennifer. I treasure those days that I have time to myself!

  4. Jennifer, thank you for sharing this post with us at The Crazy Little Love Birds link party #21. I truly need to take a few days and just spend that time with the Lord. Lately, I have had a lot on my mind. This helps so much.

  5. I have an insatiable desire for this, Jennifer! I’m a true introvert, so I need all these things you’ve mentioned in order to be refreshed. When I can’t have them, I ask the Lord to refresh me and trust He’ll give me that time soon. He always does…even if it’s driving or while washing dishes! It’s so important for my mental health! I especially need “time to ponder.” I used to think it was a waste of time and considered it daydreaming, but now I know it’s how I’m wired, I need it, and it’s not a waste of time when I ponder good and right things. Thanks, Jennifer!

  6. Jennifer, time alone with our Father is most important. It is so easy to get caught up in the day to day activities that we neglect the most important! Jesus drew away to spend time, how much more is that important with our walk with the Lord. Thank you sweet friend for your beautiful reminder of what is truly important!
