Where has Joy & Comfort gone?

As I was putting our Christmas tree up the other day & choosing the decorations from our Christmas box, I became pensive about this season.

I always find I reach for the red & white decorations for our tiny tree (now a third of the size it was when the children lived at home). I think the deep red & white look amazing against the dark green of the Fir tree.

I remember many, many years ago, not long after I came to know Jesus personally, one of the older ladies in our church invited us for a Christmas afternoon tea.

When we arrived I noticed that she didn’t have any decorations on her Christmas tree. I found this curious…

After a delightful & delicious tea time, she got up from her seat & took a box out of the cupboard asking my daughters who were 6 & 4 years old at that time if they would like to decorate her tree as she told them a story.

Much excitement ensued  as my girls chose each decoration out of the box & placed them on her tree as she told them what each represented in the Christmas Story.

First was the Nativity scene that she directed to go under the tree, then the tree itself she said represented the tree Christ died upon.

And she continued to tell the Easter story with the red, white & gold decorations, that is intertwined with the Christmas Story. And the lights were His light that can burn brightly in us all year through.

My girls were fascinated & so was I! For I hadn’t known this before, to me they had just been pretty Christmas decorations to place on the Christmas Tree other then the angel or star at the top.

She ended with the following;

In this Season & throughout the year it’s God’s Son Jesus & His Spirit that give us the greatest comfort & Joy.

Comfort & Joy?

If we look at what’s happening around the world & in our own countries we could be tempted to think all the Joy & Comfort that Christ brings in this Season & throughout the year is somewhat waning.

But this isn’t truth…so we’ll explore this today.

In this busy season I invite you to take a little breather & join me in a refreshing cuppa.

I have a hot mug of Spicy Christmas tea (so delicious) ready for us & a tiny gf Short crust fruit mince tart for our treat.

So let’s put our feet up as we reflect & sip awhile…

Christmas is about joy & comfort…Comfort & joy!

And these come from the following;

Joy

&

Comfort

  • that through Jesus, God is with us in His Spirit.
  • in His promise that He will return…soon!

Let’s dwell upon the importance of Christ in this Christmas season for a just few more moments…

“For God so loved the world

that He gave His one & only Son,

so that whomsoever believes

in Him [Jesus Christ] shall not perish

but have life eternal.”

John 3:16

Christmas isn’t just a season it’s a relationship for eternity!

May you come to know His peace, joy & comfort not just in this season my friend but in all the seasons in your life, how to do this is shared here.

Until next time,

Jennifer

  1. Jennifer, as always your writing is encouraging. That is a precious story of the lady allowing your children to decorate the tree as she told the beautiful story that never grows old. Blessings to you and your family on this Christmas. May you know His peace, His comfort, and His joy! Hugs, my friend!

I am having trouble with receiving comments on the WP reader. I can’t get the problem resolved. Here is the link to my website:

    1. Thank you sweet friend. Oh I thought you may have switched your comments off on WP because you were busy.

  2. Jennifer, I loved reading about how your friend invited your daughters to decorate the tree. And how beautiful that she shared the Christmas story with them. What a beautiful memory for each of you! I hope your Christmas holds much comfort and joy!

Hi, Jennifer. How sweet it was of her to let your children decorate the tree. It seems to me that the joy and excitement of Christmas is all about the little children, as long as they know the reason we’re celebrating. I’m visiting you one last time as a party host to say thank you for linking up at my last party, number 143 for the #UnlimitedLinkParty. You’ve been a very welcome guest and a pleasure to visit. I’m pinning this post and wish to say, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  4. A lovely story about decorating the tree, and so meaningful. I have decided not to put up my decorations this year as I do not have the energy or strength to have anyone here for Christmas dinner. I will spend the day quietly by myself as far as I can see now, and I will enjoy that. I am invited for Boxing Day to a friend’s, so that will be nice. I’m looking forward to a day of rest on Christmas Day. Merry Christmas to you Jennifer and all of your family.

    1. I do understand my friend, I’m not sure if I’ll make Christmas get togethers either this year, as it’s a day to day living experience with FM.
May you have a very blessed & restful Christmas Day with the Lord. Merry Christmas!

I love this, Jennifer—especially the dear lady allowing your little ones to decorate her Christmas tree while she told the stories. What a precious memory—especially with that visual! Wishing you God’s sweetest comfort and joy this Christmas and always. 🙂 Stopping by from #littlethingsthursday
