Modern Miracles, do they really happen?

Miracle is a word bantered about when things happen out of the realm of human understanding. However, are there true supernatural miracles today that are being witnessed throughout our modern world?

I thought this was an interesting topic for reflection as we enjoy our cuppa’s together.

First let’s grab our mugs of delight & fill them with our favourite tea blend, coffee or my hubby’s favourite hot Chocolate. Accompanying them with a treat, I’m enjoying a gf Orange & dark Chocolate bite with my large mug of Vanilla Rooibos tea.

We’re also sitting in my living room where it’s cozy & warm. As it’s absolutely freezing here on the east coast of Australia at the moment with a cold snap blowing in from the Antarctic bringing snow fall on our highest peak Mt Kosciuszko in our southern snowfields.

Now we’re comfy let’s begin…

The history of Miracles

When we have a little look throughout history both ancient & recent there are many accounts of miracles & miraculous events taking place.

I think at this point it would be beneficial to have the definition of what a Miracle is & its twofold meaning in today’s modern language & understanding;

A Supernatural Event: An event that defies natural laws and cannot be explained by science & is believed to be caused by God’s direct divine intervention.

In a broader, everyday sense: it can refer to any highly surprising, fortunate, or outstanding accomplishment by man.

For our time together we wil be focusing upon God’s direct divine intervention that can only come from Him in a supernatural way.

But first we’ll look at an often pondered question in the observance of what seems to be a contradiction in terms in God’s power to perform & intervene in certain situations with miraculous results but not for others.

The question

For this section we’ll look at the miracles of healing. First the question;

Why didn’t Jesus heal everyone who was ill or needed the miracle of healing when He walked this Earth?

I believe the best way to find the answer to this often asked question is to look at what scripture tells us. For the answers are clearly given when we do a little study into God’s Word – the Bible.

We can glean as to why in the Gospels through what Jesus taught His disciples. One being where Jesus healed the man who had been blind from birth, in those days they believed that all illnesses & disabilities came from the Sinner either the parents sin or the person themselves. So the disciples asked Jesus who had caused this man’s blindness, his parents or himself?

“It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him. John 9:3 NLT

So Jesus not only healed with compassion but also to demonstrate the power of God over sickness, congenital abnormalities & death.

As we saw in the account of Jesus raising Lazarus after he’d been dead in the tomb for four days, again not only because He was moved with compassion & grief for those He loved but for the glory of God & to demonstrate His own Divinity to those present saying to Martha;

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me will live, even though he dies. And everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11: 25-26 BSB

But Jesus also warned His disciples that those in His own hometown & province would question (not believe) His Divinity as demonstrated in the following scripture;

“Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown and in his own household is a prophet without honor.” And He did not do many miracles there, because of their unbelief.” Matthew 13: 57-58 BSB

So miracles were performed by Jesus in the above examples for two reasons;

  • For the Glory of God, to demonstrate that God the Father, Son & Holy Spirit are One & all powerful, even having the power over death & sickness
  • And healing mainly comes through faith & belief in Jesus as the Messiah

There was also a main reason Jesus Christ came & that was to bridge the gap between Man & God that had existed since the Fall from Grace by our many times great Grandparents Adam & Eve (read Genesis) & this is clear in the following scripture;

“…God our Saviour who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all—the testimony that was given at just the right time.…” 1 Timothy 2: 3-7 BSB

While Jesus healed many & performed many miracles while here on Earth His main purpose was to bridge that gap. Salvation is for all those who have faith & belief in Him as their personal Saviour for Eternal life.

Thus He was here for a specific purpose, one that was & is paramount for mankind & one we could not do on our own. He is our Saviour, which He demonstrated by His life, Sacrificial death, Resurrection & Ascension for us while on Earth.

However it wasn’t over then, for He is a living Saviour & is very present in that time & to the present day!

So to answer the above title of this post; do Modern Miracles really happen?

I can wholeheartedly say without reservation that modern day miracles definitely take place! In fact our family has just witnessed God’s direct intervention to end a living nightmare, a situation by the world’s viewpoint that looked hopeless & had only one possible outcome.

But we are a family of Faith & hope & believe God at His Word when He said that nothing is impossible for Him! So much personal, family & corporate prayer was prayed for God’s Will & intervention in this situation, as I shared in last week’s post in the; Ups & Downs of Life!

God intervened at the most critical point completely turned the whole situation around, ending the nightmare of the past eight months!

He performed a modern day miracle! All glory goes to our Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Much rejoicing by all has been expressed & continues for we have a powerful, gracious & loving Heavenly Father who is very involved in the lives of His children – believers. Praise Him!

In fact leading up to that critical point I was witnessing wonderful changes in the lives surrounding those going through these circumstances & knew the Holy Spirit was at work already before the miracle appeared.

Are you waiting for a miracle in your life or the lives of your loved ones my friend? Don’t give up, continue in Faith & prayer for God’s Will & wisdom in the situation.

Look for the miracles happening in & around your loved ones lives, for His workings & miracles may appear very differently to what you thought they would look like.

Until next time,

Jennifer
