It’s been a very busy few months for hubby & I. And we’re feeling very tired & weary now. However, I’d love you to join me in a cuppa & reflection.
Let’s grab our cuppa’s, treats & get comfy before we spend time together.
I have a mug of French Lady Grey today made with tea leaves & petals of roses & cornflowers with a hint of citrus peel. My treat is a gf salted caramel health slice. What’s yours?
Now we’re comfy let’s begin…
What is Weariness exactly?
Weariness & tiredness are two states that often get used interchangeably.
And their definitions are similar. Tiredness is;
‘…a temporary loss of strength and energy resulting from physical or mental exertion, often resolved by rest or sleep.’
Where the definition of weariness is similar but has another component to it, it’s:
‘The state or condition of being physically or mentally exhausted by hard work, exertion, strain, stress or fatigue by repetitious circumstances.’
I know you too have felt tired & weary at some stage in your life, after all it’s just part of being human & you may be feeling that now my friend.
So what do we do about it?
Well, with tiredness we need to get practical by deliberately pausing & resting, so our bodies can restore & energy can return.
However, weariness is different as it has a psychological component to it, often ‘fatigue from circumstances that are repetitive’ & these circumstances can come from many things.
Let’s make this personal…
Hubby & I have chronic health conditions which are impacting our respective body’s constantly. Now don’t get me wrong here, we live our best lives within the limitations that these conditions have placed upon us & we feel very blessed in the life we have together.
However, living life is still a daily challenge for us. For our health conditions are constant companions & they can be rather demanding companions at that! We have made many lifestyle changes so as to alleviate the demands of these conditions as much as possible.

For example, we have learnt we can’t over do it on our ‘better days’ otherwise we pay a high penalty within our body if we do. We try as much as practically possible to live low stress lives, which is not always possible when outside forces intrude as shared in, Why is rage bubbling under the surface of many today?
We also support each other daily by using our individual practical gifting, that God has given us, so as to spread the load in the daily operations of our household. This way we have a very peaceful & quiet home.
However, we are human & we don’t always get it right! We can still overdo it on our ‘better days’ which leads to days or weeks of a flare in our conditions.
We can get stressed when outside forces intrude & impact our quiet life. On our individual’challenging days’ we may not support each other practically as much as we do most days but we have also learned to grace each other.
Weariness comes to us all…
You see when hubby & I are tired & weary we know there’s a solution & that solution is found in the following;
“…The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary; His understanding is beyond searching out. He gives strength to the weary…” Is 40:28-29
We have an amazing Heavenly Father who knows our capacity in each & every season of our lives & is ready to give us His strength when we’re weary & rest when we’re tired. As one of my favourite scriptures remind us;
” The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down (rest) in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul… Psalm 23: 1-3 BSB
But we have a part to play too!
We often think it’s all up to God but we have a part to play in our life with Him too. We need to allow ourself to rest & allow Him to strengthen & restore our inner being through His Spirit, for remember He is the perfect gentleman He will never force anything upon us.
Are you allowing Him to strengthen you in your tiredness & weariness my friend? He’s there right beside you waiting to do His work in you when you allow Him.
Until next time,
Jennifer

How interesting to see the differences between tiredness and weariness! I have wrongly used the words interchangeably. Being a word person, I love knowing more exact definitions so we can also determine more exactly how to solve the real-world dilemmas they represent. Thanks for sharing this, Jennifer.
You’re most welcome Lisa! 😊
We’ve had to slow down too. Jesus’ yoke is easy, even if life isn’t. Good thoughts.
Thank you Debbie. I totally agree, life can be really tough! But I’m glad I have the Lord to journey through the tough times with, as well as, the more pleasant times in life. 😊
Thank you for your encouragement today, Jennifer, sometimes I think we become too weary to even find rest, at least that is how I have felt in this season. And yet, God is always near providing His strength when ours fails.
You’re most welcome Donna. I understand exactly what you mean, weariness can be that ‘bone weariness’ that seems to go right through our being & yes His strength is always available. 😊
I really appreciated the distinction between tiredness and weariness. It made me realize that weariness comes from the repeated effects of stressful living. However, we are blessed to receive the repeated strength of our Lord each day as we come to Him and cast our burdens on Him. Thank you for this cup full of encouragement. May God bless you and your hubby today with an extra measure of His strength and joy!
Thank you sweet friend. 💕
Dear Jennifer, Thank you so much for sharing Isaiah 40 and these thoughts about being tired and weary! I’ve learned so much about allowing the Lord to pace my days, to help me in the weariness. And yet, when a new stage or incident of weariness engulfs me, I cry out for help, but so easily forget the allowing part. I have to learn it again, in a deeper way. Thank you for this sweet and encouraging reminder, just when I needed it. Blessings and prayers for you dear friend.
You’re most welcome sweet friend. I do understand 💕
Hi Jennifer, as always this is an encouraging post. Being tired and weary is common to all of us. My sweet husband lives in chronic pain. I always want to support him in every way possible. Our quiet time together has been so encouraging to both of us. You and your husband are in my prayers.
Blessings my friend,
Pam
Thank yo sweet friend, we appreciate your prayers & love across the seas. I’m saddened to hear Butch lives with chronic pain too. You’re a great support to him I’m sure. 😊
Blessings to you both 💕
I really appreciated these thoughts today, Jennifer. I’ve experienced both tiredness and weariness in my current season, and learning what to expect and how to manage it has been very helpful. I’m so thankful, as I know you are too, that God gives strength to us when we are weary and that the joy of the Lord is our strength. Hugs, friend.
You’re most welcome Lois. Yes, I agree wholeheartedly the joy of the Lord is our strength & His strength is definitely my joy. 😊
