All things come to an End…or do they?

Welcome to my little corner of cyberspace my friend where we enjoy a cuppa together while reflecting upon life’s complexities.

Over this last month I’ve had some wonderful time with my family which has been such a blessing. I’ve been able to spend precious time with family from interstate, who live 1,000km away & those closer, only an hour away & some five minutes away. Yes it has been a very blessed time indeed.

And what I’ve noticed over this time is that while God had given me a surge of physical strength & energy during this time it has now come to it’s end.

The Question

So today’s reflection is musing over the following question;

Why are we given strength & energy for certain seasons & times in our lives & seemingly not at other times?

But before we begin let’s grab our cuppa’s, a treat & get comfy. My cuppa today is a Caramel Coffee, with a gf Muesli Muffin & as it’s still freezing in this part of the world we’ll be inside where its warm & cosy.

Seasons of Strength & Energy

I remember when my daughters were living at home, in those busy child rearing years, life seemed so full with raising three daughters, studying for my degree & part time working when strength & energy seemed to abound.

Then came the season of empty nesting with my girls off on their own adventures, navigating their own relationships, careers & then families. As I was still busy working professionally & co working the farm with my late husband, energy & strength during that season seemed to be immeasurable.

Then came my sweet & gentle husband’s diagnosis of Brain Cancer & within 12 weeks of that diagnosis he was gone, taken to Heaven. Strength & energy waned as the season of widowhood began.

Then as the widowhood years ended with a new season of marriage to my present husband & stepmotherhood to his three teenage daughters began, strength & energy seemed to surge. However it wasn’t to last, it began to wane a few years into our marriage, almost disappearing all together.

Beginning the present season of climbing the heights of Chronic Health Challenges. However there has been much to learn & glean during this season, as shared in the following post;

Challenging days…really!

The Answer

As I’ve reflected upon this question, something Corrie Ten Boom’s Dad said to her echoes through my mind, when she was questioning whether she would have the strength to face certain seasons in her life. He told her that you don’t buy a train ticket until you need to travel.

In other words God gives you the strength & energy for each day within a season, as each day’s need is different so will be the measure of strength & energy.

“…And as your days are, so will your strength, your rest and security be.” Deut. 33:25b AMP

God has reminded us & promised the following for every season that we find ourselves in;

“Don’t be afraid, because I’m with you; don’t be anxious, because I am your God. I keep on strengthening you; I’m truly helping you. I’m surely upholding you with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41: 10 ISV

The Deuteronomy verse above tells us that ‘as our days are, so will our strength be’, so in each season we need to rest & be secure in God’s strength & not our own.

And that doesn’t necessarily translate into physical strength & energy but rather inner strength & energy for that day.

In every season I am learning Paul’s lesson;

“I know how to get along and live humbly [in difficult times], and I also know how to enjoy abundance and live in prosperity.

In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret [of facing life], whether well-fed or going hungry, whether having an abundance or being in need.

I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]”  Phil 4:12 & 13 AMP

May we look to Him each day & be filled with His inner strength & energy for the season ahead.

Until next time,

Jennifer

  1. I’m grateful for those surges of energy that God blesses me with and I’m always amazed when they arise when most needed and then are often followed by time needed to rest, reflect and regroup. The bible verses shared are such comforting reminders that, no matter our current season, God will walk by our side, filling us with all we need!

    Jennifer, it is so true in my life as well. I think the Lord gives us the strength for each day and what it entails. He in His wisdom and mercy fills us with exactly what is needed. And on those other days, we can just rest in Him. Amen, may we look to Him for all we need each and every day. {{hugs}}

  3. Thank you, Jennifer, for this timely reminder that God does give grace and strength in those seasons which feel overwhelming. It’s also a good reminder that without Christ we can do nothing, but with Him we can do all things!

  4. I’ve been thinking of those child-raising days – when I could stay up until 2 a.m. to grade papers, write, finish projects, clean house. I watch two of my grands during the day – and, oh, boy – the energy-level to get projects done after they leave can be overwhelming. I am trying to adjust to this new rhythm – and yes, trust Him with the energy and time – and listening to what He plans, not my schedule.

    1. I do understand Maryleigh, those days are gone for me now so I’m so glad my grandchildren are now young adults.
      It’s nice to see my daughter being the Granny now to my great grandchildren 😊

  5. Dear Jennifer, I have found it to be so true also, that He does give us sufficient strength for what is needed. It may not be all that I want, but His ways are above mine! He does know what I truly need. Thank you for being such an inspiration and encouragement to keep leaning on Him. I’m so thankful you were able to enjoy your family time. You are in my prayers tonight, dear friend.

    1. Thank you sweet friend, I really appreciate both your prayers & kind words of encouragement.
      He certainly does know exactly what we need Bettie & when we need it…we are truly blessed. 😊

  6. I find that as my physical strength has slowed my spiritual strength has grown. I now have much more space for,prayer and study. Old age has its gifts for sure.

  7. Hi Jennifer, it was a blessing to read Challenging Days again! You are a lovely encourager as you battle health challenges. I admire your courage as you walk through chronic pain. How refreshing that you get a reprieve in order to enjoy some family time. I think about my beloved Mother who had arthritis and suffered great pain. I was amazed how she never complained and kept going as long as she could! Only by God’s grace!
    Blessings my friend🙏🏻

  8. Yes, life is always changing, as your post shows so effectively. Whether we want it to or not, nothing stays the same. I’ve always loved that metaphor from Corrie’s dad too. Staying present in each day is so helpful.
