When I read a post on seasonal fragrances a few years ago I was amazed, as I hadn’t given much thought to the aromas of each season. Have you?
Although, I always enjoy the beautiful fragrance of Spring with the heavy scent of Frangipani, Gum blossoms & Star Jasmine upon the air.
Living here on the East coast of Australia I enjoy the smell of the salty sea air on my walks along the waterfront in every season. But the fragrance of the other seasons had escaped me…
But, before we continue let’s grab our cuppa’s, a treat & get comfy, I’m having a cup of my favourite tea today, Earl Grey with a toasted slice of gf Orange & Lemon Maramlade loaf. What’s yours?
Fragrances
Like most people I enjoy wearing fragrance, my all time favourite perfume is White Musk as it reminds me of my favorite candy, Musk Sticks, from childhood. My grandchildren always say I smell sweet like candy! And then they feel like eating lollies afterwards which I have some on hand just in case, Lol!
Recently, I was gifted a Pamper Box, a belated birthday gift, that contained Perfume, Body Spritz, Body Lotion & Shower gel all in the fragrance of White Musk. I felt very spoilt indeed! Even the box was beautifully & cleverly presented with pull out sections, like little shelves to display the bottles on.
Did you know that scents are the strongest memory prompt? They can trigger memories like nothing else can.

An example of this…
When I opened the box the aroma of White Musk filled the air & instantly transported me back to my childhood, I was suddenly at my grandmother’s house.
I loved both of my grandmothers but this particular memory had transported me to the memory of my maternal grandmother’s home where she had just given me a shopping list, a wicker basket & some money in an envelope to walk up to the General Store called Alikish’s, at the end of the street, plus a five cent piece to get a bag of lollies (candy) that I could choose for myself.
It was a store where everything was behind the counter, Mr & Mrs Alikish would serve you, they knew me by name as they knew my grandparents well. I would hand one of them the list, the money & the basket then I would hover over the lolly counter looking at what to pick.
Once the basket was ready with the listed items, Mrs Alikish would come over tearing a little white paper bag off the nail beside the lolly case & ask me what I would like, I would point & the bag was filled with the sweet treats.
Of course the first things I chose were pink Musk Sticks, then White Chocolate buttons, Banana lollies then Hundred & thousand buttons. Some times I would choose little hearts that had messages on them but that day I didn’t.
Back in that day you could get 3-10 lollies for a cent, depending on what you chose so I returned to my Grandmother’s house with a bag full of lollies to last me the whole sleepover & beyond.
And that night when we were watching television together, being allowed to stay up later than at home, she cooked the most delicious French Toast with maple syrup & icecream for our after supper treat with a mug of hot Milo.
It was a sweet time forever etched upon my heart of a grandmother who was so loving & kind, even through the turbulent adolescent years of my youth, in such amazing ways with her legacy living to this day in sweet memories.
I thank God for Nanna’s love & her faith in Him. She always told me that she was praying for each one of us grandchildren. Then as we grew into adults & had children of our own that she was praying for her great grandchildren.
Exploring a sobering thought to ponder…
I often ponder what Spiritual fragrance I may be leaving behind in each of the changing seasons of my life, especially for my daughters, grandchildren & great grandchildren.
And often ask myself the folllowing, am I;
to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing? 2 Corinthans 2:15
Hmmm, a sobering question…don’t you think?
Until next time,
Jennifer

This is such a beautiful post, Jennifer. I loved reading your memories of your grandmother – fragrance truly is such a powerful memory trigger. I also like the point you raise about the legacy we leave – so important. I’m featuring this post at the May edition of the Hearth and Soul Link Party which goes live Sunday May 4th. Thank you so much for being a part of the H&S Community!
Thank you April, that is a lovely surprise! 😊
