The Most Delicious Cupcakes Ever!

Welcome my friend to my little corner of the blog sphere. Today we’ll be sharing in some family time that hubby & I had last week. You see it’s time for my great grandson Colten’s first birthday, we had a mini party for him here.

Why a mini party?

Well I’ll share why in just a minute but first let’s grab our cuppa’s as the cupcakes are ready! Now we’re comfy let’s begin…

The Conundrum Solved

You may remember a few weeks ago that I shared with you  that I had a conundrum in my post Indecision & Platitudes.

Since then that conundrum actually resolved itself in a most unexpected way, for just after that post was published I unfortunately badly strained my back & travelling interstate became problematic.

On sharing this with my granddaughter & her husband, who are travelling  with work at the moment, they were happy to drive down from their present location.  To have a special time with my husband & I before Colten’s official birthday party held this week interstate. What joy!

Cupcake Fun

I’ve found over the past five decades that I really enjoy baking & decorating cupcakes, as well as double choc Brownies for my family & their special occasions. I like to do different flavours & types of cupcakes, so I thought I would create a birthday tea party for Colten with cupcakes.

I also thought for a one year old that I would bake just something simple, so gf  Vanilla cupcakes were the choice & because he’s so young I thought that the icing (frosting) needed to be completely natural with no preservatives, artificial colouring or flavouring. So I chose Blueberries to colour & flavour, not knowing at the time that blueberries are his favourite treat!

On the day of their arrival I set the table for an afternoon tea party with the cupcakes, party hat, gifts & a handcrafted birthday card (I had created earlier to go in his time capsule for his 18th Birthday).

The scene was set for their arrival, when Colten laid his eyes upon the birthday table his eyes grew wide. And as we sat down to enjoy our cuppa’s & the mini party his Mama told me that this was his very first cupcake experience!

After lighting the candle, singing happy birthday with Colten clapping & rocking along in his special seat.  He was given his first cupcake, his little finger dived into the colourful icing (frosting) first which went straight into his mouth, yep he thought that was tasty.

His Dad had cut it into quarters for him, after awhile there wasn’t much left, only crumbs! I think his first cupcake experience was a success, especially when he put his hand out for another one! Lol!

Children are a heritage from the Lord,
    offspring a reward from Him.
Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are children born in one’s youth.
Blessed is the man (& woman)
whose quiver is full of them.

Psalm 127: 3-5 NIV

It’s such a joy & a blessing to spend precious time with my granddaughter, her hubby & my great grandson. As the above scripture highlights, they are definitely a heritage from the Lord & such a privileged one!

We ended the tea party with discussing our all time favourite cupcakes as my grandson in law put Colten down for his afternoon nap.

My husband’s favourites are Butterfly cupcakes with Strawberry jam & fresh cream in them with a dusting of icing (powdered) sugar.

Like hubby I too enjoy Butterfly cupcakes (they were very popular in our childhood) but I prefer Lemon curd with fresh cream. We know what Colten’s favourite is now!

I always think the most delicious cupcakes that we’ve ever tasted come from the memories of childhood, don’t you?

Until next time,

Jennifer

Jennifer, this post is just the sweetest! How very precious to not only celebrate Colton’s first birthday together but to also see him enjoy his very first cupcake! The Lord surely has blessed you and your family. May He keep His hand on little Colton’s life, drawing him closer and closer to Himself with each passing birthday!

    1. Thank you Joanne, the Lord indeed has blessed my family & I. 🥰
It was a very precious time together & that was my prayer for Colten too, that I wrote in his birthday card & his Mama put into the time capsule for his 18th birthday.

Aw, that sounds like a delightful and delicious time. My oldest son refused to even try his first cupcake/cake until we gave him a fork to use. He did not want to get his hands dirty with frosting I guess.

  3. Jennifer, you planned the most perfect birthday party for Colten. I just loved reading about him and his fun first experience of cupcakes. You created a beautiful memory, my friend! Thank you for sharing it with us!
    Blessings always,
    Pam
