A very Strange Morning Indeed

Hubby & I experienced a very strange morning the other morning. I’ll tell you all about it but let’s grab our cuppa’s & get comfy first.

I’m having a Lady Grey tea with a slice of my home baked gf Orange & Almond loaf toasted with butter melting upon it’s deliciousness. What are you having my friend?

Our most unexpected series of events

That morning my husband had an appointment at our Regional Hospital, I always like to support him with any medical appointments when able. So we left in plenty of time for the hour’s trip, factoring in time to find a parking spot (which can be quite tricky there) as well as time to grab a cuppa before the appointment.

However, twenty minutes into our drive we came across a road block, this road block had closed the main road leading into the city from our region, which was very odd indeed. The detour pointed to a side road leading past a large Industrial Estate that doesn’t cope well with an increase in traffic.

My husband commented that he hoped the traffic ahead wasn’t banked up bumper to bumper. Always the optimist I replied, hopefully not.

However, my husband was right, not far down that road we came to a stop in a very long line of traffic (kms long), bumper to bumper!

After moving at a snail’s pace for another twenty minutes, getting absolutely nowhere & with the clock ticking towards the appointment & hubby getting rather concerned that he would be late. We decided to do a U turn & go back to a parallel road that would lead us out to the highway from another entry point.

All was going to plan, as we had reached the highway & were making up time, until just past a certain point we saw a large electronic sign, warning all traffic that there was an accident ahead with long delays. Then we came to the traffic banked up on the the four laned highway bumper to bumper! The highway itself was also completely blocked!

We realised this was not going to go to plan at all & took the opportunity nearing a U turn lane to turn around & go for a cuppa beside the river, not far from where we were.

So my husband could phone the Clinic to let them know it was not going to be possible to attend his appointment because of the road blocks & traffic congestion. He learned that he was not alone as many outpatients had phoned in to say the same.

But unfortunately he was also told that he would have to wait another three months for the next available Specialist’s appointment, we were glad it was only for a follow up consultation!

But this was not the end of our strange events

As we parked beside the river & got out of the car, a huge gust of wind nearly bowled us over, we quickly got back into the car. My husband, always observant of our surroundings, looked up at the large Eucalyptus trees we were parked under (which are known for dropping their branches in high winds) & thought this was not a good place to park in such extreme conditions. So again we left for another place to have our cuppa.

Finally, we arrived at a picnic area several kilometres away overlooking another expanse of water & was able to enjoy our morning tea in the car being rocked by the very strong winds, watching white caps cross the lake with Noisy Minors, Ducks & Magpies trying to fly in the strong gusts of wind, which was rather entertaining & comical.

We had also planned to get lunch at the gluten free Café on our way home from his appointment but after the morning’s series of events & with the lateness of our morning tea we decided to just head for home as we were both worn out!

As we were driving home the following thought crossed my mind; there is always a reason for delays & interruptions to our schedules, so I wondered what the reason was this time. Especially when we had committed the day to the Lord in prayer before we had left home.

We may never know, but another experience came to mind from 2018 when I did find out the reason & was very glad of God’s hand & delay upon the situation, shared in;

Flight delay, life delay…

What can we learn from roadworks that change our plans? That detours & delays often happen in our lives too!

Life’s Roadblocks, Detours & Delays

So often we get impatient in the delays that come into our lives, don’t we? We think things should happen in our timing & according to our schedule rather then God’s.

However, we can’t see the beginning from the end, only God can for He’s not restricted by our time.

Just as detours & delays are necessary at times for safe road travel, life delays may be necessary for the timing of God’s circumstances to align for His Will in our lives (& in our loved one’s lives).

The Take Away

Let us not be so focused on our timing for things in life. But rather may we focus on God & trust that He is working on whatever we have committed to Him in Prayer.

Although we may not be able to see it, He is rectifying the issues that need attending before we or others can travel safely on His paths for His purposes.

And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.

Jennifer, I so needed your words this morning. I needed to find a new pulmonologist for my dad and the first availability I could find was 1/9/25. It has been a daily trusting and depending on the Lord for us. The Lord knows the time and the timing and holds both in His hands.

  3. We may never know why the delays. But God in His divine providence knows exactly what He is doing! Thank you for sharing, sweet friend!

(My comment from Flight delay, life delay…) Most often we don’t know why the delays, but I rest assured God is always on time and He has it all in His loving Hands. Thanks for the beautiful reminder and am thankful your flight was a safe one.
