Coping with Lumps & Bumps…

It’s so lovely to have you join me here today my friend! Come on in & we’ll enjoy a reflection together, grab your cuppa & get comfy. I’m having a mug of French Earl Grey tea while munching on a Coconut Macaroon.

Have you noticed that there are many lumps & bumps along the path in life? Me too!

I’ve also been noticing just how many lumps & bumps are in our seating, flooring & bedding here at home. And even while out walking I can feel the ups & downs in the track.

Defining Challenges

Looking at the definitions of these terms I can see why they’ve been used to describe this journey called Life;

Bump actually has two meanings; a jolt or collision; a protrusion from a level surface.

Lump means; a mass of substance without definitive boundaries.

These definitions are interesting, don’t you think?

For we often have jolts in life, don’t we? We can be traveling along feeling all is right in our individual world, then out of the blue a jolt (bump) of ill health hits or sad news is delivered.

These collide with our sense of peace & wellbeing, sitting like large lumps in the landscape of our life.

Lumps can be uncomfortable!

Sitting here at my desk I can feel every lump in my desk chair, even with an additional pillow upon it.

And as I walk on our carpet I can feel the lumps in the areas where it has worn more then others. At night I can feel the aging of our once perfectly & blissfully comfortable mattress (or is it me who is aging?).

All these can make it rather uncomfortable just like challenges in life do.

Like the lump of chronic illness that at times seems never-ending (an undefined boundary of time).

Or maybe it’s the lump of financial hardship, relationship/family issues or work challenges that we’re facing.

Whatever we’re dealing with they can be extremely difficult to live with day to day.

But you know what I’ve noticed about those pesky lumps & bumps?

When I’m in a quieter cycle of Fibromyalgia with more tolerance & resilience, I don’t even notice them!  However, when I’m in a Fibromyalgia flare I can feel every one of those minor irritations!

Why?

Because a flare is an intensity in all the symptoms of Fibromyalgia, especially pain. Sadly pain lowers our tolerance for dealing even with the smallest of issues in life.

Although, the pain we’re in may not necessarily be physical, it may be emotional, mental or spiritual.

As there are many forms of pain,  all of which lower our resilience to be able to cope with certain situations in life.

What can we do?

In the following post I shared what I’ve found to be the perfect solution;

The princess & the pea…

Remember, whatever we’re dealing with God has this & we can rest in His arms. For Jesus said;

“…in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering,

but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy];

I have overcome the world [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.].”

John 16:33

Until next time,

Jennifer

    So true here Jen. I love how Jesus smooths out our lumps and bumps. When we snuggle into him, I love being enveloped in his warm sunshine embrace.

    Thanks so very much for sharing this with Sweet Tea & Friends this month

    1. It’s a joy to share with Sweet Tea & Friends Paula.
      I love how you put the following;
      “I love how Jesus smooths out our lumps and bumps. When we snuggle into him, I love being enveloped in his warm sunshine embrace.” Amen!

  2. Jennifer, it is comforting to know that no matter what we may be facing, whether physical, mental or emotional, God is in control and we can find solace in His embrace. Thank you for sharing this wonderful post with us at The Crazy Little Lovebirds link party #33.

    Seeing as my husband & I have been talking about getting a new mattress, I found this post most interesting. The lumps and the bumps are not comfortable in life. But much like our mattress, there are nights we find sweet sleep. And so it is true with the lumps in life. We can find comfort and peace, and sweet sleep, when we simply come to Him. Thank you for this cup of encouragement, sweet friend!

  4. Oh Jennifer, I find this post both whimsical in the definitions of lumps and bumps, and profound in just how much “discomfort” we endure sometimes before we crawl close to Jesus and find rest.

  5. As always, thank you for your encouraging posts. Life is full of bumps, but when we stand on the truth of God’s Word and trust in Him for He knows what is best for us, we can make it through. Counting blessings is always a great way to see all that God has done and realize how much He cares for His own!
    Blessings sweet friend,
    Pam
