Hi, welcome my friend!
Have you noticed the shops are full of Chocolate Eggs & have been for awhile.
Years ago, when my daughters lived at home, we had fun making chocolate eggs for Easter.
Of course a lot of the chocolate ended up everywhere, especially into the mouths of my chocolate loving daughters! Lol!
But have you ever pondered why we have Chocolate Eggs?
The meaning of the Egg
We know that the egg was adopted by early Christians as a symbol to represent Christ’s Resurrection = new life.
And because Christ’s death & Resurrection took place around the time of the Passover celebration we celebrate Easter around this time. The Easter Story is found in Luke 22.
But why Chocolate Eggs?
I’ll let you in on a little secret I actually don’t like chocolate!
I know, it’s hard to believe! Who wouldn’t like chocolate, right? Well, me!
As a child my chocolate Easter eggs would sit in the fridge for months after receiving them.
Until one of my family, who was a chocolate lover, couldn’t stand it any longer & ate them! Lol!

The short answer to why we have Chocolate Eggs at Easter?
Is simply pure indulgence that is reputed to have begun in the French Court of Versailles & has continued to this day through marketing!
Chocolate Eggs still symbolise new life through Christ’s death & Resurrection!
So to Chocolate lovers everywhere
As you enjoy your chocolate this Easter remember the great cost of Christ’s sacrifice for us & the miracle of His Resurrection. For Jesus said;
“I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father, but through Me.” John 14:6
As I will do while enjoying my Cinnamon Chai Latté & blueberry muffin.
And now I invite you to join me for a special treat in…
Until next time,
Jennifer
You’re most welcome to join me in The Reading Nook

Oh, I love chocolate! Especially when combined with peanut butter, like Reese’s eggs. But I like muffins, too. 🙂 Hope you had a lovely Easter!
I’m not familiar with Reese eggs Barbara. But glad to hear you enjoy them. Yes we had a lovely relaxing Easter thank you 😀
I never liked chocolate as a kid and my mom always had to look for things like jelly beans or white chocolate bunnies to put in my baskets. Now I love chocolate in all it’s forms; especially dark chocolate.
That’s so interesting. Our tastes do change over time although my hasn’t with chocolate lol!
I never heard of chocolate Easter eggs. I did enjoy seeing the eggs dyed red that are a part of the Orthodox Greek Easter celebration.
Wow, I didn’t realise that you don’t have Chocolate Easter eggs in your part of the world Elizabeth. 🤔
We have mountains of them each year! All sizes from weeny to enormous. They’re always wrapped in brightly coloured foil to keep them fresh & often presented in gift boxes with an array of chocolates..
As children we always received a milk chocolate cross surrounded by jelly beans!
I’ve not heard of or seen an Easter chocolate Cross before Susan were they home made? 🤔
I never realized that eggs symbolize new life. I appreciate Easter eggs more now.
