Exploring the lessons of a Tumble

Over the past eight months I’ve found that the theme for this year has been constantly present, even when I haven’t been conscious of it & that theme is Explore.

So I thought this week we would explore what I’ve discovered in this past week. But before we do let’s grab a cuppa, a treat & get comfy. I’m enjoying a French Earl Grey tea today with blue cornflowers & rose petals in the blend, a rather pleasing tea & a gf peanut butter nut bar to munch upon.

The tumble aka a fall

The other morning I discovered something rather poignant from a tumble I had…

Let me set the scene; I was taking out the clothes horse (aka clothes airer) loaded with our towels (as I like to dry the towels we’re using in the sunshine each day). And all of a sudden I found myself lying on hard concrete!

It happened so quickly, I didn’t have time to stop myself or break my fall. My husband quickly ran to my side as I laid there for a few moments checking that I hadn’t broken or sprained anything. Praise God there wasn’t anything seriously damaged that I could feel, just pain, bruising & a jarring to an already aching body…ouch!

But what really stood out to me with this incident is not only how quickly I tumbled to the ground but also how comforting it was to have my husband immediately at my side with his compassionate love, caring & strength to help.

In exploring my thoughts & feelings on the tumble that morning, I’ve found many parallels to our spiritual lives.

Let’s Explore this a little further…

When I analysed how this fall happened I realised I was trying to do too many things at once, even though I do this task most mornings I usually set things up much better than I did that morning.

The many things were; I was having a conversation with my husband, while opening the sliding glass door to the front pergola area, while carry a loaded clothes horse while still in my dressing gown & slippers! This caused an overload & an imbalance in my concentration.

Where normally I do this chore when I’m in my day clothes, already having pre opened the sliding glass door, then I turn to carry the clothes horse outside without a conversation in progress.

This situation reminded me of a season in my life when I was far too busy, with too many things on my plate & had a tendency to try to do too many things at once…just like the morning above.

And it brought a valuable spiritual lesson to mind that I had learnt back then, that I’d like to share with you today.

Spiritual Tumbles

Busy times & trying to do too many tasks at once often lead to an out of balance life. And it often starts with an imbalance in our time with the Lord which can become rushed or interrupted, with thoughts of the next thing on our ‘To Do list’ & the day ahead instead of concentrating & enjoying the precious time with Him.

Or sadly we skip devotions all together, thinking we’ll catch up later & later never comes. This causes an imbalance in our relationship with the Lord which can lead to a spiritual tumble.

An imbalance can manifest itself in many guises; impatience, a lack of compassion, an intolerance with those around us, selfishness, overeating (comfort food), speeding, frustration & short temperedness to name just a few.

Then if this imbalance isn’t addressed, a Spiritual tumble will often happen & then pain, bruising & a jarring occurs by the circumstances of the tumble, instead of rising above it in the Lord’s Strength.

But we’re not alone

Just as my husband immediately rushed to my side to help me when I had taken the tumble outside. The Lord Himself is always by our side ready to help us up & give us His strength, forgiveness, joy, love, compassion & wisdom in all & every situation of our lives.

As He promised;

“I WILL NEVER [under any circumstances] DESERT YOU

[nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless],

NOR WILL I FORSAKE or LET YOU DOWN or RELAX MY HOLD ON YOU [assuredly not]!”

Heb 13:5 AMP

May we guard our precious time with the Lord & not become far busier than God would have us be.

Until next time,

Jennifer
